About the painting: Willie Gudabi has the spiritual responsibility for maintaining young men's initiation ritual and mortuary ceremonies. This piece documents the stage of the adolescent initiation in which the young men are informed of women's healing power.
About the artist: Willie Gudabi felt a calling to use painting as the medium to express aboriginal beliefs to the "outside world" and began painting in the late 1980's. Because he works with is wife, Moima, many pieces concern women's ritual.
