Story (as told by artist): The Jampijinpa lived with his two sons. They were hunters Everyday they go out hunting for meat. One day they speared a female kangaroo that was belonging to the old man so he did not like it. So next morning the brother went out hunting again but they did not get anything. Soon as they were coming back home they knew what was going to happen to them. The blue tongue send a flame after them, the fire chases them far south. |
|
Story expansion: This painting tells the story of the great fire caused by Lungkarda, the old blue tongue lizard man, to punish his two sons for killing a sacred Kangaroo. The fire was followed by an immense storm which caused all forms of plant and animal life to flourish. The aboriginals frequently use firing of land to force growth of edible plant life. |
