"CLIMBING VINE (NGYIPI) DREAMING"
© Rene Robinson Napangardi

Story: This image is a traditional symbolic depiction of a climbing vine variety called Ngyipi. Although no information has been provided by the artist, some standard interpretations may apply to this piece. Circles often represent water sources or ceremonial sites. The horseshoe shape always indicates the presence of people. A possible interpretation of this image is that it depicts a ritual linking the community to the creation and continued existence of the climbing vine. The two wavy lines running the length of the painting may represent running water.
Artist information: Rene Robinson, born in the early 1960's, began painting in 1987. She was instrumental in developing the Jukurrpa Artist's Cooperative as a respected enterprise. Her work is usually of "bush tucker" (food found in the bush) and she is known for a simple, direct, and graceful painting style.
